MEGA provides cloud storage with end-to-end encryption applied in the browser before files are uploaded.

That means the service cannot read your files: the encryption key is derived from your password and never leaves your device, which is a genuinely different security posture from standard cloud storage.

The corresponding risk is that losing your password means losing the data — there is no recovery path, because there is no one holding a key to restore it with.
