Sogou is a Chinese search engine now operated under Tencent, and its most distinctive feature is indexing WeChat public account articles — content that is otherwise closed off from general web search.

That makes it the practical way to search inside the WeChat content ecosystem from a browser, which matters because a large share of Chinese-language commentary, brand publishing and industry writing lives there rather than on the open web.

For general queries its index is smaller than Baidu's, so most people use it alongside another engine rather than as a replacement.
